I'LL SHOW YOU MINE ...
Some rough waters hereabouts have necessitated our claiming a mental health break, so we're quitting L.A. for an overnighter to parts unknown. We plan to be back Friday, so there's a chance of a Friday roundup before the holiday weekend. And tomorrow we will briefly log in to offer another Guest Review, as well as (we hope) a stringer's report later today from last night's Eggers descent on Book Soup. But that's more or less it until Friday.
Since we've talked about it so much, though, we thought we'd leave you with a pair of pictures of our dread TBR piles. The first (and smaller) one, herewith, is the ARCs and review copies we've picked up at BEA and that have made their way to our doorstep. A little overwhelming but not too bad.
This one, on the other hand, is the testament to our compulsion - three bookcases full of books we've bought (and continue to buy) but haven't yet gotten to. We are working our way through it all slowly, to be sure, but we once figured out that if we devoted ourselves to reading full time, it would take years to get through these all. And that's vaguely disheartening. But ever starry-eyed, we continue to add to their number. (No doubt Ed and Sam can spot the books we bought at City Lights.)
Anyone else wish to share their piles? And with that vaguely off-color sounding request, we are outta here.

Hey, you really shouldn't have that shirt on a wire hanger...

Great idea! I'll post mine when I get home. It makes me feel better to know that I am not the only one who has a huge TBR pile.

Mark,
I don't have a digital camera but can say that if I started reading at the pace that H. Klausner does, I'd still be into the second quarter of next year before I finish the five boxes of books that I have lined up in the supposed order I'll be reviewing them. As I specifically requested a great chunk of these from publishers, I feel an obligation to get to them. Unfortunately, they keep publishing more before I do get to the original stack!
Enjoy,

I have two piles of TBR stacks. But I'm in no hurry to race through them just to prove to ignorant friends that I've read them. Life is short. If I die, God forbid, before I've completed reading the books, so be it.I prefer to go out reading anyway.
