As you can imagine, the literary news today is dominated by John Banville's Booker Prize victory. We're a bit calmed down now, as we resume work on transcribing our final installment of the interview we conducted last May. (Please note, we've added a new category - The John Banville Interview. Seemed the least we could do.)
In the meantime, coverage continues, including nods from MSNBC, The Financial Times and Bloomberg. We were also chuffed to learn that Sutherland himself cast the deciding vote, especially given their slightly testy exchange of letters in the NYRB.
As pleased as we are for Banville, Lionel Shriver still wins the "Goofy Post-Award" Photo contest. (Thanks to David Remy for the link!)
Make sure you stop back here Friday, when our second-favorite Irishman will offer up his own appreciation of Mr. Banville ...

Oh by the way, yesterday's ... um ... exuberant headline was actually intended as a passing tribute.

That photo looks like one that could have been used when he was nominated for the Book of Evidence. He told Kirsty Wark in the Newsnight interview that had he won for BoV, he so drunk at that stage in the night that he could barely stand.
So I had a celebratory glass of wine for him and am delighted - unlike the UK Independent's Boyd Tonkin.

I love Banville's quote, from the NYT:
When asked how he would spend the money, he at first said he did not know, and then changed his mind, saying, "Good works and strong drink."
