AND BOOKLIST MAKES FOUR
It's been a long day in New York and I am completely wiped out (too tired to type "we"), though I can report the Titlepage taping was great fun. I'll be back with more details for you, not the least of which will include a brief paean to the lovely verses of my co-panelist Edward Hirsch. Until then, I break radio silence to share the last of the pre-publication reviews, this one from Booklist:
The founder of the Elegant Variation, a popular literary blog, makes a winning debut with this smart and funny novel about a hapless widower struggling to better himself. Harry Rent blames himself for his wife Anna’s death at the hands of a plastic surgeon. His constant lying and regular visits to prostitutes are part of what drove her to seek cosmetic surgery. When Harry becomes entirely smitten by Molly, a waitress at a coffee shop, he determines that the best way to win her love is to become a better person (he’s been reading a lot of Dumas). He starts doing one good deed after another for Molly’s cranky colleague, Lucille, who might be old and crabby but figures out pretty quickly that Harry has ulterior motives. Meanwhile, Anna’s sister, Claire, formerly Harry’s schlumpy comrade-in-arms, starts stalking Harry’s every move to determine what drove her perfect sister to seek surgery in the first place. Out of Harry’s transformation, Sarvas weaves a moving story of redemption, a wryly funny take on self-improvement, and a reassuringly optimistic view of human nature.
I think it's safe to say I couldn't be much happier this evening. Updates tomorrow from L.A.

Congrats on the review!
Would also be curious to read your response to the commentary on your Tree of Smoke/Northern Lights round at the TOB...

Mark, I used to love this site, but man, maybe you should leave your publicity up to the publicists?

Well, Randall, I hope you'll forgive my me enthusiasm for my debut. As I note, this is the last pre-pub reviews, so all will be quiet for a while. Promise.

Seriously, let the man revel a bit. This is exciting stuff!

Were Randall's comments not sarcastic? I thought they were. If they weren't: boo on Randall! :)
The review is great. Can't wait to read the book. Congrats.
