The Literary Saloon lays me low with the sad news that the Librairie de France, the French bookstore in Rockefeller Center, will be closing.
Regular readers know I'm a Tintin devotee since childhood. What they might not know is that after I got my first Tintin volume - Destination Moon - my mother would celebrate each of my subsequent birthdays by taking me to the Librairie de France to select another Tintin adventure to add to my collection.
I will be sure to stop by and say Au revoir when I'm in New York in February ...

Say good-by for Babar for me.

Tintin. I remember reading the comic strip well as a child too and his fox terrier, Snowy aka Milou.
I've just got your book, Harry Revised in the post and am enjoying the first few pages so far.
I'd like to interview you about your childhood memories of Tintin and your book on my literary podcast. Been 2 years since I've been reading your litblog and commenting from time to time.
Thanks,
Coll

What a wonderful memory of collecting Tintin... Those birthday excursions for the purchase will always be in your heart. My son, now 13, also first read Destination Moon way back when we lived in the wilds of Vermont, and could cross the border for more installments.
The fact that these places remain for so long is a comfort, a trigger for the happy memories. It's sad to see establishments like this leave, as seems so common now...
