Live in NY where PEN World Voices is unfolding as I type. Last night brought Shirley Hazzard in conversation with Richard Ford, summary to follow but she was all you imagine her to be. (Favorite moment: when she spoke to "the great gift of the English language.")
At any rate, I am performing a Public Service Announcement here to let you know that Sherman Alexie, who was set to deliver the Fifth Annual Arthur Miller Freedom to Write Lecture, has had to drop out of the festival for unspecified personal reasons, and he's been replaced by none other than Christopher Hitchens.
You can find all the details here.
More dispatches to follow ...

Oh man. Christopher Hitchens. Just pray he's not sober (a prayer I'm fairly confident will be answered). Definitely try to record this clandestinely. I envy you.

Looking forward to reading your Hazzard summary, Mark. I came to her work late, and was gobsmacked by her prose.
