The tributes to Dr. Michael King continue in New Zealand. We knew about this yesterday but felt the death news was getting just a bit oppressive.
Dr King's biographies of writers Frank Sargeson and Janet Frame had helped transform New Zealand culture by elevating literary heroes over rugby heroes."He had a great passion for the intellectual life of New Zealand. He was determined this would be a society in which heroes weren't just rugby players, they could also be writers," Dr Phillips said.
Dr King gave a eulogy at the funeral of Frame, who died of cancer in February.
