Matt of The Mumpsimus informs us about an Ebay auction to help pay for medical expenses for horror writer Charles L. Grant. I don't know the author or his work but hate to hear about destitute writers struggling to survive, so I'll find something to bid on and urge you to do the same.
Thanks for the link, Mark. Let me add a little bit of background here: Charles Grant is a writer and editor of long standing within the field of horror fiction. He's won just about every award he was ever eligible for, and helped innumerable other writers begin their careers. Grant has been in the hospital for 9 weeks with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and he has no medical insurance; hence, the Ebay auction and other efforts to raise money for him.
The auction is stunning -- 91 items, including numerous signed first editions by people such as Stephen King, Dean Koontz, etc. Peter Straub has contributed the first manuscript pages of the book he's currently writing. Etc. So it's a chance to bid on items that are extremely rare, while also helping a writer in desperate need.
