Bookrounds is a cool idea. It was started 8 months ago by John Jessen who has worked in several book-related jobs for the last 15 years. He was in sub rights at Grove Atlantic, on the floor in a bookstore in Brooklyn New York called the Community Bookstore and currently runs the events for the New Haven Free Library.
The idea behind Bookrounds.com is to team up bookstores with event venues and gather together lots of readers who want to join a book group but don't know other readers in their community.
The site itself is the facilitator - the actual events are face to face.
The New Haven chapter has over 300 members who come together twice a month to meet with an author whose book they have chosen and engage in a discussion with him or her. So far the group has met with A.S. Byatt and the fall line up includes Anthony Doerr Katharine Weber, Edith Grossman discussing her new translation of Don Quixote and probably me with John Searles, author of Strange but True, in November.
What a great idea....we need to form a fucntional one here in the Los Angeles area.

Aldo - I should be out there in April. But in the meantime find a local indy and have them contact John at Bookrounds. It's a really great idea.
