Staffers are still investigating the technical glitch which somehow allowed a New Republic editorial by Leon Wieseltier to run as a "book review" in the New York Times Book Review. But Wieseltier's incoherent screed spends far less time on the book it purports to review - Nicholson Baker's Checkpoint - than on the state of political discourse in the United States, and so the error was quickly spotted by sharp-eyed readers.
No word yet on when the mistake will be rectified. In the meantime, those seeking reviews of Checkpoint will have to turn elsewhere.
Ha! I posted something not nearly as clever as that over at Readerville.com after reading that ?review?. I tried to read the book - gave up after twenty pages.
