Stephen Mitchelmore has pulled up stakes from In Writing and started up a new site called This Space, and it's off to a terrific start. We've long been admirers of Steve's work - he's a close, thoughtful reader with a deep background that informs his literary analysis - and so we'd direct you to this newest member of our blogroll even if his first post didn't mention us and John Banville.
As an example of what we mean, Steve offers this insightful take on the place of language in the novel:
Usually, I say that what I love in novels is not the anticipation of finding out what happened next but the abidance in the tension between the poetry of the moment and the urgency of the narrative.
We hope you'll join us in making This Space a regular stop on your blog travels ...
(Speaking of Banville, the Prague Post reviews Prague Pictures but this mixed review gets off on the wrong foot, declaring that Banville is best known as a historical novelist, which is both wrong and silly and puts much of what follows in a suspect light.)
