You know, we used to date a girl from Staten Island and she wasn't exactly a bookworm herself. Still, we'd be lying if we said we felt any surprise at the news that the gents of Staten Island aren't exactly bibliophiles.
The word around the borough is that men aren't the book-reading types, at least not like their female counterparts. But is this generalization accurate? Are the guys drawn only to quick hits of information provided by magazines -- or do real men read books too?
"Men reading books is about as common as men eating quiche," laughed Chris Giotta, 24, of South Beach, who admits that the last book he read cover to cover was "Catcher in the Rye" back in high school. "I'm far from illiterate. It's just ... when I get home at night, the last thing I want to do is cram my head with more stuff. To me, relaxing is a football game, not a book about football ... or anything else."
I disagree. Men do read books. Why is it that people always ask the least likely person these questions, and automatically assume they represent the majority? Check out the bookstores.

A book about football...now that sounds like a mind bender! It's a good thing Mr. Chris isn't reading all that much, I'd hate to see what a little insight mixed with the combustible elements of intelligence he already owns might create.
