Rather the grumble about the verminous subspecies known as "LA Landlords,"* we're keeping chin up and sharing the news about the newly announced panel of Booker Judges.
Chaired by Professor John Sutherland, the strong line-up consists of fiction editor of the Times Literary Supplement, Lindsay Duguid; writer and antiquarian book dealer, Rick Gekoski; novelist, Josephine Hart; and literary editor of The Evening Standard, David Sexton.
*OK, we grumble for just a moment, as we wonder just how in the fuck people get their apartments rented if they never bother to answer the phones that they list in their ads?
Do you know if anyone has done a comparison of the evil quotient of L.A. landlords and New York landlords?

Panel-talk apart, there are services in NY which let you "buy" an address and phone no for a couple of hundred bucks. 8th Avenue addresses especially:-) The "receptionist" then forwards the phone calls and fed ex mail to various home-office clients.

Well, if renting in CA is anything like here, there are probably at least a hundred people calling for each rental place. It helps to get the ads hot off the press and call the new ones right away. Thanks, also, for posting the Booker judges.
