The India Times reports that Amitav Ghosh's The Hungry Tide has won the Hutch Crossword Award for best original fiction in English.
The Hutch Crossword Awards are given in two categories: Original English Fiction and Indian Language Fiction Translations Into English. The winners received cash prizes of Rs 3 lakh each. The idea behind the awards is to encourage and promote good Indian writing in the way that international prizes, like the Booker, do abroad.
*Yes, we considered headline variations on the "Oh my Ghosh" theme but decided we weren't quite that sick.
