We know that not everyone welcomes our political rants but we're just wondering how it is that the Senate has voted in favor of AWR drilling but the only fucking stories anyone seems to be covering are baseball and Terry Schiavo. And the AWR debate got what, seven minutes, whereas our fine representatives in Washington have given eleven hours over to baseball. We're feeling just a bit like we've gone down the rabbit hole this morning ...
Such stupidity and triviality is probably what finally did George F. Kennan in.
I don't think spending all this time on baseball is wrong. If anything, I'm with Representative Bernie Sanders, the Independent from Vermont, who criticized the nation's media for giving this event the type of coverage it received. Rightly so, Sanders said they do this kind of work everyday, it just happens to be with baseball this time. He criticized the nation's media, and was all but shouting as he invited them to come back when we're talking about health care and the war in Iraq and when we're debating the loss of jobs. He was very eloquent, and very right on.
I think Congress very much needed to step in on baseball -- though I'm in the minority, a sports columnist. Long story short: let's not become the Soviet Bloc, because that's what we've become, as a nation, since the Fall of Communism -- everything we once professed to hate.
