Word has just reached us that:
The Believer has given their first annual Book Award to Sam Lipsyte's HOME LAND. The award is announced in the magazine's current issue (March 2005). In the announcement, the magazine's editors say HOME LAND, "droll, profane, raucous, sad-provides the energy for a social satire so merciless and heartfelt that it inspires in the reader a weird faith...Lipsyte seamlessly-and bravely-grafts the most exquisitely ornate sentences to an overall vibe that's as intimate as conversation. You will not laugh as much this year, even as you look down at the void that Lipsyte's words so gorgeously, nervously cross."
The Believer Book Award was created in order to honor what the Believer editors consider the bravest, most ambitious book of the year. "
