Morning everybody. Kevin Smokler here. Thank you to Mark for handing me the keys to the TEV mothership today. Technically this is part of the Virtual Book Tour (of which The Elegant Variation has participated in several times) where I'm supposed to be talking about my book Bookmark Now: Writing in Unreaderly Times, which comes out June 1. There will be an appetizer-sized place of that. But the main course will be you. The issues that Bookmark Now raises, whether reading is in decline and who bears responsibility, the influence of technology on literary culture, the perceived distance between author and reader, are being debated everyday here in the blogosphere but only recently has both the mainstream media and the publishing because to take notice and listen. TEV readers are among the smartest, most passionate about what we do in this corner table of the book world. I intend to make the most of my seat at this table, if only for a day.
The meal is served.
Nice to see you here, Kevin!

Kevin,
Your publisher has been kind enough to get that book out early - picked it up yesterday afternoon and have enjoyed your intro and a few of the essays already - nice job.
Enjoy,
