Like many others, we're deeply shocked and saddened by the London attacks. Blogging about books feels slightly trivial just now, so we're going to go dark out of respect for the losses and we'll return Monday.
Before we leave, we do direct you to Sarah, who has been blogging about the day's other loss, the death of Evan Hunter.
With all due respect to the Londoners:
Live fearlessly. I mean it, man.
I am utterly sick of the hysteria and the blame and the fearmongering that suggests that we can't blog about books or ride the subway or otherwise live our lives because "we are at war."
Fuck that. Ain't trivial at all.

Ed, you know I love you dearly, but chill. It's called respectful silence. That's all.

Still, remember: If we stop blogging, the terrorists have won.

Respectful silence is the last thing, in my view, that is needed right now.
If you must proclaim your silence, why not make very clear its tone, that it does not hold hands with the pious politicians who are bringing this about. Just a thought.

One more vote for respectful silence.
