We've decided to take the rest of this week off. We've got a birthday next Monday, about 90 pages of novel left to write, and a wild hair up our asses to race through to the finish line by then. (It's that section Coach Gary calls "No Man's Land" - too far out from the start, the finish line not yet in sight. And that's usually where we choke.) We'll probably fall a bit short but we're going to put our heads down and pedal hard.
Fear not, we've got some pretty good content lined up ... a guest review from Daniel Olivas tomorrow ... a Thee Minute Interview with incoming LATBR editor David L. Ulin on Wednesday ... a guest review of the latest George Saunders from the Verminator himself, Jim Ruland, on Thursday ... and our lovely guest blogger Karen Palmer returning for a Friday stint. Although we reserve the right to pop in randomly from time to time, we're gonna down the wireless router. Email response times will be even more glacial than usual. OK, now start reading the John Banville interview below - we busted our asses typing it up just for you.
Muchos gratias. Be careful out there.

Be sure to ask Ulin about the deputy editors and regular reviewers. Will a big change be coming. Is Owchar out? etc
Thanks!

Good luck, Mark. Write like hell. (And have a good pre-birthday.)

Nice photo. A bit depressing. Reminds me of the Lucinda Williams line, "and the hills turn brown in the summertime..."
