This is the time of year when we usually turn our attention toward Paris. Normally, we'd be there right now (October is our preferred month) but training for our November bike race interferred, and so we're heading out for a Paris New Years. But we've begun obsessing early, and so the Guardian's list of top 10 sexy French books coudn't come at a better time ...

Speaking of les choses francaises, a South African author has been awarded the Prix du Marais.
The French translation of the Cape Town-based novel, Skyline, has won the Prix du Marais, a top French literary award.
South African writer Patricia Schonstein received a standing ovation here when she scooped the prize from a shortlist of eight novels chosen by readers and an expert panel. She is the first foreign writer to have won this prestigious award.
"It's amazing to have my work acknowledged by French readers like this," Schonstein said. "I was so excited when they offered to fly me to France for the ceremony. When they announced I'd won I couldn't believe it."
