That's my official time for an average of 20.4 mph. In the unofficial standings, I came in 785th out of about 7700 riders but that number has been jumping around, so I'll wait until it settles in to claim a position. My in-the-saddle time was 5:11 and I'm pleased beyond words and utterly exhausted.
Tomorrow will bring a recap of the ride, and a return to infinitely more interesting literary news - but just a wee bit later than usual. Until then, here are two shots, one from the starting line and one from the finish.
Home and happy.
GOTEV and I got there at 5 a.m. to nail a good spot near the starting line and had to spend two hours in the 45 degree cold. Here I am getting ready to move off ...
And here at the finish line, dehydrated, exhausted and happy ... Much more to come, soon.
Jesus, man. You're insane.

Mark, that's incredible. Congratulations!!!!
I thought of you many times on Saturday ... as I lolled on the couch, eating bonbons, you know, the way non-insane people do.
p.s. I'm most impressed with the after-race picture, in which you are still smiling and coherent-looking and not draped like roadkill over the top of your handlebars. Well done!

Congratulations! Quite the accomplishment. We await the report from the 'saddle.' Hope you're getting plenty of rest and fluids now-- Wendi
