It's the Friday before a long weekend which means we're tucking in for some unpacking, reading and revising. We'll be back here on Tuesday but we leave you with these weekend worthies:
* "I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure."
* Eons ago we had this bright idea about writing a screenplay about the last days of Poe. Our agent's eyes glazed thickly at the pitch ... Damn good thing we heeded, as there's already plenty of Poe inspired fiction out there ... (Related: Matthew Pearl's The Poe Shadow is reviewed at Slate.)
* We are nearly done with David Mitchell's lovely Black Swan Green, so this Pop Matters interview is well-timed, indeed.
* The Lambda Literary Awards have been announced. Full list here.
* ReadySteadyBook is one of our favorite litblogs/websites anywhere, period. On top of the usual excellence, they've now got John Berger shoveling shit. And that's literally.
* Despite controversy surrounding his pro-Serbian stance, Peter Handke has won the prestigious Heine Prize for Literature.
* Now this you've gotta love ... In China, when there's a plagiarism case, the Supreme Court steps in.
* A theatrical adaptation of John Dos Passos' U.S.A. Trilogy is set to open in the D.C. area next month.
* And finally, check out Alex Beam's pretty damn funny "hypothetical blog" ...
Could it be possible? Are you at last coming around to David Mitchell? :)

I've always thought he was wildly talented, I just felt that he leaned too much on cleverness and gimmickry, sacrificing the humane. BSG shows that he does have the depth to take on the human without leaning on a lot of flash trickery. I'm thoroughly impressed with it.
