In this interview, T.C. Boyle, the writing teacher, tells the truth about teaching writing.
Question:Answer: Is it possible to teach someone to be a good writer?
No. Well, to be a competent writer, sure. But not to be a great writer. You must have a great talent to be a great writer. ... My purpose in my students' lives is to be their coach, just as I was coached by others - not taught, necessarily. You're taught by other writers by reading their books.
