William Boyd, whose Any Human Heart was one of our favorites of 2004, has won the Costa Novel Award (the rechristened Whitbread) for Restless.
The judges described the novel as unputdownable. "Restless remains in the mind long after you finish it. Double-cross, double-bluff, all written with effortless clarity."
On 7 February, the author will compete against the winners of the first novel, biography, poetry and children's book awards to win the Costa Book of the Year.
We're not completely sold on "unputdownable," which seems to have permanently entered the vernacular, but it's probably time to take Restless off our TBR shelf and crack it open.

Let us know what you think of Restless.
I really enjoyed Any Human Heart but haven't decided if this new one is worth it based on the reviews i've read.
Also, as i'm sure you are aware, the new Michael Ondaatje is scheduled for May. The title is Divisadero. Can't wait.

I'd like your take on Restless as well. I loved Any Human Heart and put Restless down after about fifty pages. I still wonder if I missed something
