Word reaches us this morning that Christine Falls has made the Los Angeles Times bestseller list. It's presently sitting at number eight. We don't pay regular attention to the list, so it's possible Banville made it here with The Sea, as Booker Prize winners do tend to show up here, but we imagine this is probably his first time on the list. It's certainly Benjamin Black's first time ...
I'll have to order it (there are three serious English-language bookstores here and none have "Christine..." in stock). I hated "The Sea" (melodramitis) but I loved "The Untouchable," (layers and layers of justified rococo; a weddingcake of style) so I'm willing to give old Banville Black the benefit of the doubt. Can't beat "Quirke" for the name of a coroner, can you?

I wonder if sales reports will show a certain Sarvas making mass purchases of Christine Falls across the greater LA area...

I actually only bought one (to have it signed) but I did suspect that the bump came from the number of copies sold at the LAPL event. Will be interesting to see it if stays on the list next week.

dude, mark, sometimes the love for banville approaches the gushingly obsessive.

"Sometimes"? "Approaches"? Fats my man, we left obsessive behind long ago - hence the post's category selection.
