Dear Mr. Munger:
Last week, I noted here the wonderful news about your decision to preserve Duttons historic Brentwood bookstore. After the post ran, a friend and reader emailed me, saying "I hope the blogosphere will be as loud in cheering as they would be in booing if he had gone through with the demo." He's absolutely right.
Thank you for preserving this vital part of the community, for showing a respect and love for literature that's in increasingly short supply these days, and for being open enough to listen to those who came knocking. You deserve grander and more formal appreciation than this blog can hope to offer, but please do accept a heartfelt thank you on behalf of the readers and book buyers of Los Angeles.
I hope that, as my correspondent suggests, some of my blogging brethren will also consider acknowledging this tremendous gesture. Thank you, Mr. Munger - you've done something lasting and remarkable here. I invite my readers to express their gratitude in the comments box below.
In appreciation,
Mark Sarvas
I totally second Mark! Thank you VERY much for saving our bookstore, Mr. Munger!

Yes! Much, much gratitude! And apologies for any non-maliciously intended snark about market forces and good intentions!
Sorry, Mark. And Mr. Munger.

It is so nice to see something good happen and for everyone take notice of it. Makes good, responsible decisions like this worth making.

I've been carefully crafting a piece for LAist ever since I heard the news on Friday. It's called: Why Dutton's Matters. Should be up in the next day or so and I'll be sure to mention it on my blog and here when it's up!

Good for Dutton's! Now if only they would move the little tables away from the literary magazines so they don't get repeatedly splashed with coffee and stray bits of granola muffin, life would be perfect.

Mark, a bit late, but here was my LAist post about Dutton's: http://laist.com/2007/07/11/why_duttons_mat.php
Sadly, the commenters don't find Dutton's to be as important as I do.
