There's no shortage of short story competitions out there but not many have Zadie Smith selecting the winner. For the third year running, she will award the Willesden Herald International Short Story Prize, and apparently the prize has been upgraded from a "rare inscribed mug" to £5,000 (which looks even better than normal on this side of the Atlantic). We're advised that "Entry remains free, as does the ethos of a competition, which is designed to encourage emerging talent in the literary short story."
The deadline for entry is December 21 and you can learn more here.
