If you're in the New York area, I would love to see you come out for the NYC debut of Harry, Revised, which will be previewed as part of the Boxcar Class of 2008 reading series on January 23 at 8 p.m. As part of this sneak peak, I will be giving away the galley I'll be reading from (though I haven't quite worked out the mechanics yet - watch this space for updates).
I'll be reading with three exciting new writers - all the details follow:
Michael Dahlie has published short stories in places like Ploughshares, Harvard Review, and The Kenyon Review, and has stories forthcoming from The Antioch Review and The Yale Review. His story in Ploughshares was short-listed for the O.Henry Awards, and the first part of his novel A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO GRACEFUL LIVING won the Pirates Alley Faulkner Society's award for the novella. A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO GRACEFUL LIVING will be published by WW Norton in June 2008. He lives in New York City
Ceridwen Dovey grew up between South Africa and Australia. She went to Harvard on scholarship as an undergraduate to study Social Anthropology/Film, where she made a documentary, Aftertaste, about South African wine farm empowerment projects as part of her Honors thesis, which is distributed by John Marshall's Documentary Educational Resources ( www.der.org). She is the author of BLOOD KIN, which will be published in thirteen countries, including the US in March 2008. It was recently shortlisted for the UK's John Llewellyn Rhys Prize for the best book by a UK/Commonwealth writer under the age of 35. She is now doing a PhD in Social Anthropology at NYU.
Lynn Lurie, a New York City resident, is an attorney with a Masters in International Affairs and a Masters in Fine Arts. She is a graduate of Barnard College and Columbia University. She served as a Peace Corp volunteer in Ecuador, worked as a financial journalist covering the Andean countries and currently volunteers as a translator/administrator on medical trips to South America providing surgery free of charge to indigent children. Following the August 2007 earthquake in Ica, Peru, she has been involved in rebuilding the regional hospital there. Lurie is a part-time professor in the Humanities Department of Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ. CORNER OF THE DEAD is her first novel.
Please do come out and say hello. Look forward to seeing you all there.
