We're back at last, dropped with a thump like Dorothy's house after the twister, having spent six hours behind two-year-old twins in the row in front of us who shrieked in shifts for the entire flight home. But nothing clears up our disposition like giving away books, so we're going to hand out a copy of Matthew Eck's The Farther Shore today to a lucky TEV winner. The novel was an LBC Read This! selection, and was one of the books we touted on our recent NPR appearance.
The rules remain the same. Drop us an email, subject line "GET OVER IT, KIDS CRY" and, of course, please include your full mailing address. We'll take on all comers until 7 p.m. PST at which time the Random Numbe Generator will have its way. And life will get back to normal in these parts as we work our way through the literary backlog, so stay tuned.
UPDATE: Congrats to FOTEV and long-time contestant Carl Peel of LA, who wins the book. (Hang in there, Pete, your number will come up!) And thank you to all the parents who wrote in with sympathy ...
I'm sorry I missed your reading. There was a world premiere at New York City Ballet that night and I'm a dance blogger, so had to be there. I'm glad it went well and you had a packed house, and I definitely look forward to reading your book.

We made a prenatal pact and haven't wavered yet, after two years: no planes, restaurants, movies, museums or galleries until she's ready (3? 4? 5?). We're expecting a goldplated Good Citizenship plaque in the mail any day now...
