Michael Merschel of the Dallas Morning News is kind enough to provide a sneak peek of my review of Peter Carey's His Illegal Self, which he'll be running this Sunday. Since I'm off to NYC to speak on a panel at the O'Reilly Tools of Change conference, I won't be able to link to it when it comes up, so follow Michael's links if you are curious ...
The O'Reilly TOC conference looks super, Mark. Hope you will find time to report on it when you are back. Thanks for the link to the Carey review, too.

Wow, Mark. When I worked at O'Reilly, I never would have thought I'd see you speaking at one of their conferences (all strictly tech at the time). The conference, and your session in particular, looks great. I'm just amazed to see two of my worlds coming together.

I agree completely with what you've said about the book. I'm almost finished it and if it weren't for his beautifully crafted sentences (and the fact that I have to discuss it next week) I wouldn't have finished it.
The plot is constantly reliant on thin premises and I just could not believe in Dial's motivation.
But as you say, the writing keeps you going where the plot falters.
