If you're looking for a way to spend your Friday evening, we heartily recommend you attend tonight's event at Skylight Books: David Francis (who is guest blogging at Powells this week) will be reading from his newly released novel Stray Dog Winter, a book we read in manuscript and happily blurbed when the opportunity rolled around. But don't take our word for it. Janet Fitch has compared it (deservedly, we think) to Graham Greene, and David Ebershoff has called it "a work of art." Yannick Murphy thinks his prose is "gorgeous" and here's Andrew Sean Greer:
Mysterious, intense and passionate, Stray Dog Winter is a chilling snapshot of a lost era, a political thriller, and a book of rare beauty. Like Out Stealing Horses, this story is as stunning word by word as it is in its rich entirety.
David is a smart, engaging reader and the Q&A is always worth the price of admission. We hope to see you out there (we're introducing him), but for those who can't make it, we're offering up a signed copy of Stray Dog Winter to today's lucky winner. As always, as ever, send an email with your full mailing address, subject line "WOOF". We'll take all comers until 7:30 p.m. PST when David takes the stage at Skylight. And than the Random Number Generator will do its usual heartless deed.
UPDATE: Congratulations to Peter Durnin of NY, NY
