The UK site Bookgeeks, which had kind words for Harry, Revised during the summer, has posted an interview with yer humble host ... You've just won the Booker, what do you do? Fire your agent. ...(Speaking of The White Tiger, Amitava Kumar is not impressed.) ... The Chronicle looks at fiction, where African-American presidents have been a mainstay ... Adam Begley on the David Foster Wallace memorial and on Mencken ... Some elementary school students are trying to decide what literary characters would make good presidents, though the headline stretches "literary" ... Oprah is hot for her Kindle ... The Guardian pits The Road against its forebear, A Canticle for Leibowitz ... Francine Prose - who will be on a panel we're moderating at the Texas Book Festival - makes an appearance at Baruch College ... Celebrate the OED's 80th with an interactive crossword ... And, finally, after too long in the wilderness, Hitch comes home. (Via.)
Oprah Winfrey has certainly done a lot of good for publishing, and perhaps for reading too, but I have the sense that she doesn't do anything without some self-interest in her motivation. If she's boosting the Kindle, I suspect she's getting a piece of the action somehow.

So glad to see Francine Prose's recent Baruch event (which I attended) mentioned here. Baruch and the other colleges of The City University of New York really have an amazing array of writing faculty, programs, and events. While admitting that I work for CUNY and help maintain the site I'm about to recommend, I hope your readers will visit "Creative Writing at CUNY" at http://www.cuny.edu/creativewriting and find out more.

Totally agree with you on the Hitchens comment. Seems the guy is finally waking up.
