Much has been made of the Kindle's ability to "read" text. In fact, a blind reader at the LA Times Festival of Books made a moving and impassioned plea to the Apocalypse panelists to support continuning making books available in this fashion, despite the mechanical quality of the voice. I have worked as a reader for the blind for many years. I can tell you that graphic operating systems have been a catastrophe for the blind, who had many viable screen-reading solutions for older, DOS based applications. A Kindle that can read would be an incredible boon for the blind, a group that is already more than well acquainted with the mechanical sound of automatic reading devices. I say this feature is a must for the blind.
