I wandered the hall. I was still woozy from whatever it was that led me to pass out: Grey Goose mixed with Adderall? Klonopin? I looked down for a moment and saw I was wearing something fabulous -- a mink shrug and hot pants. (This, by the way, is an enduring secret of fashion: your best outfits grow out of being cold, or naked and needing something quickly -- that is, if you have an eye, which I, professionally, do.)
Hi Katherine, I'm an English writer based in NY. I just finished your book and have bought it as xmas presents for some london friends. It was wonderful- loved how you adeptly moved the action around and how the title is so ironic at the end given what happens to her. What were your literary influences?
I used to live v.near that hiking shop you write about and now live not too far from the Carlyle. Don't you miss NY?

Tom, there is no better way to win a writer's heart than to tell her you've bought her book as christmas presents.
That hiking shop always had nice things -- I found it was much better curated than some of the larger shops.
I don't miss NY too terribly much. I get back to visit all the time.
Influences...all the regulars, probably: Hemingway, Chekov, Didion, Fitzgerald, Cheever, Hamsun, Woolf, Graham Green. Kay Thompson!
I like flattery. You are the commenter of the day.
